Depeche Mode ‘Memento Mori’

Universal Pixels is proud to be touring again with Depeche Mode for ‘Memento Mori’, which kicked off in California in March 2023.

This outing marks the band’s fifth campaign for UP Commercial Director, Phil Mercer.

“There’s an incredible team behind the tour, including Creative Designer Anton Corbijn, Production Manager Tony Gittins, Video Director Jon Shrimpton, Lighting Designer Jason Baeri and Jonathan Kessler & Alex Pollock from management, and we’re thrilled to be back working alongside them,” he says.

The production design team began working on the concepts for Memento Mori in Autumn 2022, borne out of an idea from long-time Depeche Mode collaborator and visual director, Anton Corbijn.

The centrepiece of the show design is a custom-built LED ‘M’, which has been manufactured by TAIT, and stands at an impressive 8m in height. The scenic structure also aids the tour’s video visuals, doubling an additional dimension for the video content.

UP has provided 320m2 of INFiLED ER5 LED for the upstage wall, IMAG screens and the ‘M’, plus a Grass Valley Kula PPU, Hitachi 3G camera channels, Panasonic HE145 robo cameras and disguise gx 2c media servers.

Mercer furthers: “Each Depeche Mode campaign we’ve worked on has been different from the last, but they’re no strangers to utilising bespoke 3D LED set pieces on stage.

“For Memento Mori, the mix of older and new material is cohesively blended into the 20-song set, spanning hits from across the band’s 40-year career. We look forward to welcoming Depeche Mode and their crew to Europe this summer for the scaled up stadium performances.”
